Event Registration

If you have not registered yet, please do so as soon as possible.  At some point very soon, we wil need to freeze registrations for Friday night's event due to catering concerns.  However, you should be able to register for Saurday at that point.  When you arrive for the event, you will be given a welcome package with your polo shirt, commemorative gift, and other goodies.  We will not be able to mail anything in advance of the event.

Event Parking

On Friday Night, the best place to park is in the Student Center Parking Deck on Ferst.  Parking here will be free on Friday Night. On Saturday, parking is more complicated.  Parking for the tailgate, football game and other Saturday events is not included in the registration fee. Please note, all Georgia Tech parking areas are CLOSED for game day parking beginning six hours prior to game time. Game day parking is available at various pay lots around campus and in the Technology Square Parking Deck for $20 per vehicle. For more information on game day parking, please visit the GT Parking Gameday Parking Site or the Athletic Association Gameday Parking Site.  Guests of the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center are strongly encouraged to leave their cars at the hotel.  If you arrive earlier than 6 hours before gametime, you may find street parking on West Campus.  Meters are not typically enforced on Gameday, but park at your own risk.

Event Locations

Please click on on this link to see a map of various GTBAA Homecoming events.  Our main hospitality tent is located in the grassy area in front of the Architecture building, very close to the Ferst Theatre and the Student Center.

Event Schedule

Now that the official game time has been set by the ACC television package, we are clear to set our schedule for Homecoming events.  Please check this again just before Homecoming as minor adjustments may be made.  The basics should remain unchanged.

Friday Afternoon:

 12:15 PM

Here Comes The Band: 100 Years of Music, Music, Music!

Session 3: 12:15 - 1:30 p.m.  at the GT Global Learning Center in Technology Square.
The music probably began at Georgia Tech shortly after the first students settled in, but it wasn't until 1908 that an actual band was formed. Over the years, band after band has performed under multiple directors, in many places, playing all kinds of music but always including the famous fight song and always honoring Tech's traditions. The video and the stories of the history of Tech's music-makers will give you insight into this important part of both student and alumni life at Georgia Tech.
Marilyn Somers (Honorary Alumna), Director of Living History, Georgia Tech Alumni Association"

This amazing video along with the insight of Marilyn Somers is well worth your time.  The cost to attend this seminar is free, but they want you to register.  To register, go to the Alumni Assn. front page, click on Homecoming in the center of the page and then click on Registration to the left of the next page.  You won't see the cost till you get to the end of the registration and see the zero charge.  I registered, and it's sort of a pain, but even if you don't register, I don't think they would turn you away.  Although the video is scheduled to be shown again in the tent at the Bar-B-Que, Friday evening, I'd urge you to first see it at the Learning Center both to hear Marilyn's commentary and to show the administration that there is interest and support for the Band and its history.  You'll enjoy all the more when you see it the second time.  Hope to see you there.

Postgame

Tau Beta Sigma hosts reception at Hospitality Tent

Please join us for the reception after the game.  This event is free, and please bring as many GT Band Alumni as you can.

Game Notes

Alumni Not Sitting with the Alumni Band:

You may enter the stadium with the Alumni Band if you wish and join us for Pregame before returning to your seats.  If you plan to perform with the Alumni Band on the field at Halftime you must make your way within the stadium to the North Stands where the Alumni will be sitting beside the GT Band BEFORE THE END OF THE 2ND QUARTER. After halftime you will be free to return to your seats.   If you are not participating with the Alumni Band events for the day and you wish to walk out onto the field at halftime and be recognized, please make your way to the band area in the North Stands before the end of the 2nd quarter.  You will be issued a field pass armband.

Pregame:

We will be performing with the GT Band at Pre-Game by forming the tunnel on the field.  For this portion of the event, you will be permitted to bring your children under 12 on the field with you provided they are in your arms.  We do not want a safety situation with children wandering into the way of the Wreck and a bunch of 300lb linemen.  For this reason we have agreed that all children under 12 will be held (larger children do not need to be carried, just effectively restrained from wandering).

Alumni Band In The Stands:

We will be performing to the best of our ability with the current GT Band.  They will be playing songs we have not rehearsed, but we should have music available on Gameday.  For those worried about how you might sound, keep in mind that there are over 350 students and will only be 150-200 of us!  Our seats are located next to the band just above the Swarm section of the students.  Things may be a little chaotic at first, but we will attempt to organize things so that everyone is comfortable.  Concessions are readily available for those who get thirsty, hungry, etc.

Halftime:

We will be joining the band on the field for a Halftime performance of Shake A Tailfeather. You can download the music from the downloads section of the GTBAA website (http://www.gtbaa.org) once you are logged in.  For this performance, children who are not also active in a high school band program will not be allowed on the field.  For those parents who wish to march but do not know what to do with their children, we will ask for people in the GTBAA party who are not going on the field to volunteer to watch a child during the 15 minutes we are on the field.  It will be up to individual parents to make arrangements with such volunteers during the morning rehearsal time.  If you have registered as a non-alum and have marching experience you are welcome to join with us and play on the field.  We ask that you either purchase the commemorative polo seperately ($40) or wear your own white polo shirt.

What to Wear

It is important for us to look uniform at our performances at the Campanile, Marching down The Hill, and in the stadium.  The adult uniform for the Alumni Band is the white commemorative 100th Anniversary polo shirt you received as a part of your registration, with khaki colored pants (they can be cargo pants, dress pants, whatever- so long as they are somewhat close to khaki colored).  Non-Alumni members may also purchase the polo shirt separately at the morning rehearsal ($40) or they may wear one of the other official GTBAA shirts (Gold Polo - $25, Gold T-Shirt - $7.50, Kids T-Shirt - $7.50), also available at the Hospitality Tent.  If for some unforseen reason you plan to march on the field and cannot wear the official commemorative polo, please wear a white shirt of some type.

A note to those with childrens registration.  Although we did not make it clear, your registration fee also includes one of the GTBAA T-Shirts (adult or childrens).   You may pick it up at the Tent.  Children will need to wear one of the GTBAA shirts, or something that would look the same from 50 feet away.

What About My Jackets, Purses, Backpacks, Etc.?

We encourage you to bring as little as possible with you, and dress in layers under your polo so that you do not need to bring a jacket with you.  The forecast for this year is a high of 64, sunny with partial clouds, which should be ok for wearing layers.  If you must bring a jacket, it needs to be a Tech colored jacket, preferably White or Gold rather than Navy to appear uniform (i.e. no red, green, orange, black, brown, etc.) and you will need to pack it away while we perform down the Hill, at the Campanile, or on the Field.  If you must bring a bag, it will need to be a backpack so you can easily play while marching.

We will have a lockable trailer at the Hospitality tent, which will also be manned the entire day- if you wish to leave any personal items you cannot leave in your car.  Your instrument cases can be stored in this trailer.

What about Music?

You can download music from the GTBAA website by clicking on the download link in the left sidebar AFTER you have registered with the site (separate from Homecoming registration, though you probably registered at that time as well).  You must register and agree to the terms before you may download the PDF containing your part.  PLEASE PRINT OUT AND BRING THIS MUSIC WITH YOU TO HOMECOMING.

What about Instruments?

For those of you who have requested to borrow an instrument, flag, etc. from the GT Band, we will make every effort to get you your instrument.  We strongly encourage you to bring your own mouthpieces, reeds, bits, and other accessories that are hard to find.  We also strongly encourage you to try and bring an instrument with you, even if you have requested one.  It is likely we will not be able to fill all the requests for instruments, as the band is it's largest ever.  This is particularly true for Sousaphones and Drums.  We will be attempting to borrow instruments from area high schools- if you can arrange to borrow an instrument on your own from a local high school, you may have some luck.  They usually are open to loaning an instrument in exchange for a small donation to the booster group.

How Can I Help?

We will need lots of volunteers to do things like man tables or decorate children at the events.  If are willing to help with this, please contact us at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
