Executive Director Update: February 2016

Written Feb 18, 2016 by John Gorta

Hey Band!
I wanted to take the opportunity now that we are almost two months into 2016 to update you on what the GTBAA Executive Board has been up to since Homecoming and give a little bit of insight as to what our plans might look like for the rest of the year.

The elections from Homecoming 2015 left us with the exact same people serving on the Board, but included a small shake-up with Julie Filipek and myself essentially swapping positions. I want to express my gratitude for Julie’s work as she served out the remainder of the Executive Director term vacated prior to Homecoming 2014. I would also like to thank everybody for the opportunity I have been presented with to serve as the Executive Director this biennium. I think we have a good group and that we have the ability to make our organization better!

So, you’re probably wondering: what have you been up to? Quite a bit, actually, albeit mostly in the background. Since Homecoming we have:

  • Met with our Affinity Group contact from the GT Alumni Association (GTAA)
  • Worked on completing website updates (still in progress)
  • Discussed all of the Homecoming “operations” issues
  • Reviewed feedback from the survey and identified possible actions
  • Handled the “paperwork” associated with officer changes
  • Looked at possible activities
  • Started to boost our social media presence (on GTAA's recommendation!)
…and that’s only about half of it.

Looking forward to the rest of year, we’re beginning to target activities around a couple of key dates. Obviously, Homecoming 2016 will be our biggest event. The Homecoming game will be Saturday, October 29 against duke. The other date on our radar is Saturday, April 23, which is the annual Spring Game. We’re hoping to schedule a Spring activity around the Spring Game weekend. Stay tuned for more information around those events.

Lastly, one of the items called out above was boosting GTBAA’s social media presence. We have an official Facebook page and Twitter account. We’ll be using these for official communication and occasional shenanigans on the interwebz. Please like our page and follow us and tell your old Band friends to do the same.

One more thing…we are open to your feedback! We cannot improve without it, so we want to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or any of the Board members with any questions, concerns, or ideas!

Go Jackets & THWg!
John
